Greek Olive Heritage

Intangible Cultural Heritage or living heritage, is inherited from our ancestors and passed on to our descendants. It includes oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals and festive events, knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe, and the knowledge and skills related to craftsmanship.

Greek heritage is the only major ancient civilisation’s heritage that has never stopped. Not been revived, not been reconstructed, not been reimagined for a contemporary audience, but continued, without interruption, from antiquity to the present.

The ancient Greeks understood stewardship not as a modern innovation but as a fundamental condition of human existence, the condition of being responsible for something that does not fully belong to you, that existed before you arrived, and that will continue after you are gone.

Greece is commonly described as the birthplace of Western civilisation. The claim is familiar to the point of cliché; democracy, philosophy, mathematics, theatre, the Olympic Games. These contributions are real and their influence is undeniable.
